The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to have a meeting on Wednesday (August 2) where many important decisions are expected to be made, sources reported on Monday.
The main topic of discussion will be the future structure of domestic cricket in Pakistan. Decisions regarding regional and departmental teams will also be made.
Misbah-ul-Haq, the current cricket committee's chief in the PCB, will complete taking everyone’s advice on important matters as the proposals regarding the new selection committee will also be addressed in the meeting, sources added.
The PCB will also announce the central contracts for the players after the announcement of the new selection committee.
It must be noted that the contracts expired on June 30 but were extended for a month due to uncertainty regarding chairmanship in the PCB.
On the other hand, Nadeem Khan, brother of former wicket-keeper batsman Moeen Khan, who was removed by Najam Sethi-led management, is also expected to return to the PCB after a meeting with the PCB management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf.
Earlier, Misbah chaired a high-profile meeting in Lahore which was attended by former captains Rashid Latif, Mohammad Hafeez, the board's COO Salman Naseer, and director of domestic cricket Junaid Zia.
The upcoming domestic season, as per the 2014 constitution, was at the top of the discussion during the meeting.
Sources told Geo News all three former captains couldn't come on one page related to the inclusion of regional teams and the use of Duke balls during the domestic season.
The cricket committee's head Misbah said eight regions should be included in this year's domestic season.
Hafeez and Rashid both disagreed with Misbah and gave their opinion. Hafeez said six regions whereas Rashid said 16 regions should play in First-Class cricket this year. The former wicketkeeper also emphasised the inclusion of the Sialkot region in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Meanwhile, all three former cricketers raised concerns over the purchasing of Duke balls.
Meanwhile, all three former cricketers raised concerns over the purchasing of Duke balls.
According to the sources, the cricketers aren't in favour of using Duke balls. They want Kookaburra balls in domestic cricket.
In reply, Zia told them that the Duke balls have already been purchased and they can't be returned as they were made especially on demand.
Sources also said that the board's COO Naseer was silent the majority of the time during the meeting.
